What Does Volunteering Entail

There are many ways you can volunteer with us and help the First Aid Squad and residents of Oceanport. It is easily explained by dividing the work into the two categories listed below.

Emergency Response & Patient Care (Active Membership)

Description

If you'd like to ride the ambulance and administer aid to people in their time of need this is where you want to be. No experience is necessary to sign up to volunteer, just a drive to help and a willingness to learn. If you don't already have it, we will train you in CPR/AED for the professional rescuer. This is the bare minimum needed to be involved with riding the ambulance. We will then assist you in taking any or all of the following courses:

Defensive Driving

Emergency Vehicle Operator Course

First Responder

Emergency Medical Technician (Basic)

With each completed course your responsibilities increase as does your level of involvement with the patient.  Thanks to the New Jersey State Training Fund, this training is available at no cost to you. Once you are an EMT-B a variety of classes become available for you to take as your interests dictate.

Administration & Logistic Support (Honorary Membership)

No organization is successful without countless people working behind the scenes to ensure things run smoothly. Some people would say more work gets done outside the ambulance than inside. Are you a computer wiz or finance master? Do you enjoy cooking or cleaning? We can always use members with an interest in these and other tasks:

Fundraising

Account Management

Data Collection/Processing

Building & Grounds

Equipment Maintenance & Upkeep

Refreshments

Inventory Control

If something listed above is of interest, please fill out the information request form below so we can contact you.  Nothing struck your fancy?  We are open to new members and whatever ideas and passion they bring to the table, please volunteer your time with us!

ARE YOU UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE?

Do not fret, we still have opportunities for you. We have partnered with the West Long Branch First Aid Squad to form a joint cadet program for the sending Shore Regional High School districts. High school students interested in the fields of medicine or emergency services will be able to join their classmates and learn from some of our experienced EMTs who will train them in basic first aid and get them prepared to move onto higher learning as EMTs, nurses, paramedics, law enforcement, and more. Having an early knowledge of treating illness and injury will help your child get a leg up in life in many fields. Working as an EMT helps develop team work, communication, quick thinking, and many more skills. If you or your child are interested in this program, please contact us at oceanportfas@gmail.com and we will get you information on joining as a cadet.
